Communications Setup
Getting the recloser talking to your control room, configured during installation rather than on a second visit.
A recloser that reports its status and can be operated remotely is worth considerably more than one that requires a site visit to find out what happened. Communications turn a protective device into part of a distribution automation scheme.
The RC5_4 control supports wired Ethernet, an optical Ethernet module and a Wi-Fi module. We configure whichever the installation requires while we are on site.
What communications setup covers
- Wired Ethernet configuration (10/100 RJ-45)
- Optical Ethernet module setup where fibre is available
- Wi-Fi module configuration for local access, WPA/WPA2 secured
- Protocol configuration for your SCADA or control system
- IP addressing and network integration
- Verification of the link before handover
What matters in practice
-
Configure it during installation
Setting up communications while the team is already on site avoids a second visit, and often a second outage window.
-
Wi-Fi is for commissioning, not operations
The Wi-Fi module has roughly 50 m range and is intended for local configuration and diagnostics on site, not as the permanent telemetry path.
-
Fibre where the environment demands it
The optical Ethernet module is the right choice in electrically noisy environments or where galvanic isolation matters.
-
Security is part of setup
A remotely operable protective device on a network needs its access properly controlled, not left on defaults.
