Installation
Wiring & Termination
The primary connections between the network and the equipment, made properly so they do not become the weak point.
Terminations are where a surprising proportion of medium-voltage faults originate. A poor connection generates heat, heat accelerates degradation, and the failure arrives months or years after the work was signed off.
We carry out the primary wiring and termination work for recloser and switchgear installations, working to the equipment manufacturer's requirements and to your house standard where you have one.
What wiring and termination covers
- Primary conductor connections to the switching equipment
- Cable termination and jointing
- Torque-controlled connections to manufacturer specification
- Phase identification and labelling
- Insulation and weatherproofing of terminations
- Continuity and insulation resistance verification
What matters in practice
-
Torque matters
Connections tightened by feel rather than to specification are the most common avoidable cause of termination failure. Under-tightened generates heat, over-tightened damages the conductor.
-
Weatherproofing
An outdoor termination is exposed to sun, rain and thermal cycling. Sealing that is adequate on day one and inadequate after five summers is a slow failure.
-
Phase consistency
Phase identification carried consistently through the installation avoids the class of commissioning problem that is only discovered under load.
-
Verified, not assumed
Insulation resistance and continuity are checked before energising, not after something has gone wrong.
